A Year of Waiting

Tomorrow morning we take off on our long awaited trip eastbound. Keep track of our travel adventures by checking in periodically. I will try to post daily or at least every time there's something worthwhile to share.

Last week, we visited some of our favorite California spots, spent time with our children, and created memories that will sustain us until we come back.

We love California's diversity. In one week, we went from a hike with Kristina and Alan along the Merced River near Mariposa where we saw all kinds of wildflowers and walked along trails bursting with spring's colors, to hiking in the snow with Peter and Ivy in Lake Tahoe.

We couldn't believe how much snow there still was in Tahoe. We even got snow flurries on our way back home.

Then, we couldn't leave California without a visit to Napa for some wine tasting, good food, great weather and green fields. I rarely take pictures of food but I don't want to forget the delicious appetizer we had at St. Clair Brown Winery, Pork Rillette with Fig Mostarda, a slow-cooked pork dish topped with duck fat, paired with a fig, quince, and fennel mustard paste that was to die for. Everything grown on property. We enjoyed our tasty treat with St. Clair Brown Winery's newly released Merlot. Uhm! We then proceeded to have dinner at ZuZu for tapas and paella and ended the evening with chocolate covered strawberries from the Vintage Sweet Shoppe. Decadent!

Lastly, we returned to Yosemite where we saw amazing waterfalls created by the melting snow from last winter and finished our day in the Carlon Falls Trail for a three mile hike along the Tuolomne River in the Stanislaus National Forest where we saw the devastation caused by the Rim Fire in 2013 and how nature is making a victorious comeback. So much to see and enjoy here. Funny to say that now we will start our vacation!

We will miss it almost as much as we will miss our family. But, we will be back!
